Small Bitty Tech Items Organizer

A five-slot organizer for small tech accessories, with a click when you put an item away and magnetic labels you can swap.

I designed and printed the housing, slots, and magnetic labels, and used an existing clicker design inside. The prototype gave the feedback I wanted, but the items could still fall out if it was turned upside down.

01 / The problem

I kept losing track of small accessories.

Small receivers and memory cards were easy to lose in a bag. Even when I found a receiver, I couldn’t always tell what it belonged to. I wanted a place where I could see each item and get a satisfying click when I put it back.

02 / The interaction

A click for storage and an icon for identification

I tested the slots with a USB receiver, an SD card, and a microSD card. Putting an item in presses the clicker underneath it. The magnetic icon beside the slot helps identify what the item belongs to, and you can swap the label when you change what’s stored there.

The magnetic labels sit beside the slots. Try lifting one to see how it separates.

03 / Prototyping

Changing the shape and testing the fit

I started with cardboard to try the size and push interaction, then printed a hexagonal version to test the layout and labels. The feedback I received pointed toward a smaller footprint, smoother edges, and labels that could be changed. I moved to a rectangular housing with five slots and printed smaller sections to check the fit before making the full version.
