The background

Connecting the message to the buildings

I made this poster around the phrase “Build up, not out.” The subject is upzoning in New York City, so I used tall buildings as the main visual.

I placed the housing graphic in the center and split the headline between the top and bottom. Orange and navy help separate the illustration and text. The QR code in the original artwork was included as a way to find more information.

The colors and type I used

I used navy, white, and orange, with Cascadia Code Bold for the main text and Regular for the smaller information.

Design reflection

Keeping the main idea easy to read

The buildings and headline are meant to explain the idea together. I used the circular emblem to group the housing illustration and title, then repeated the colors in the border and type.

This was a poster design study. Before printing it for public use, I would check the QR link and make sure the smaller text is readable at the intended size.
